Man Utd's Paul Scholes hints at retiring next summer

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has hinted he will only play one more season before retiring.

The 35-year-old, who made his debut for the club in 1994, was talked out of retirement last season by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

But he told an EPL Talk podcast: "I am coming to the end of my playing career - I maybe have one year left.

"I have started doing my coaching badges - hopefully one day I'll be able to coach kids or some team somewhere."

Scholes has been a mainstay of United's continued success under Ferguson, winning nine Premier League titles and helping them to two Champions League victories.

"It goes without saying what a top manager he has been," said Scholes.

"The amount of players he has brought through the youth team is great and it gives hope to all the kids in the youth team that if they are good enough he will definitely use them.

"It has just been fantastic working with him and I think there is a good few years left in him yet."

During his career, Scholes also won 68 England caps before quitting international football in 2004.

He was offered the chance to play in the current World Cup by Fabio Capello, only to decide against making a comeback.

Manchester United rule out move to sign Joe Cole

Manchester United have ruled out a summer move for England international Joe Cole, BBC Sport understands.

The 28-year-old midfielder was released by Chelsea earlier this month after falling out of favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Even before his Stamford Bridge exit, Cole had been linked with several other Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be favourites to sign him but United are not expected to be one of the bidders.

Chelsea confirmed Cole's departure when they announced German midfielder Michael Ballack and right-back Juliano Belletti would also be leaving.

And although Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of Cole, a senior club source at Old Trafford said he would not be making a summer move to sign him.

Cole began his career at West Ham under Harry Redknapp, who is now manager of Spurs, and who will be able to offer him Champions League football next season should he wish to bring him to White Hart Lane.

Chelsea signed the Londoner for a fee of £6.6m in the summer of 2003 after West Ham were relegated from the Premier League under his captaincy.

Cole, who scored 52 times in 396 appearances for Chelsea, has netted 10 times in 54 matches for England.

He is part of the 23-man squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, although he did not feature in the opening two group matches.

Manchester United and Le Havre end Paul Pogba dispute

Manchester United have reached an agreement with French second division side Le Havre over the disputed ownership of midfielder Paul Pogba.

Le Havre claimed United had illegally poached the 17-year-old from their academy last August but world governing body Fifa ruled in United's favour.

Pogba, who was born on the outskirts of Paris, officially joined United in October 2009.

Manchester United said the terms of the deal would "remain confidential".

Pogba made his debut for United's Under-18 side a few days after joining the club in a 2-1 loss against Crewe Alexandra.

The Ligue 2 side said in a statement that both sides were "satisfied to have reached an agreement regarding Paul Pogba's integration to the Manchester United squad".

No details of the agreement have been released by either club.

The case is not the first involving an English and French club arguing over the ownership of a promising young talent.

Chelsea had a drawn-out row with Lens over who owned Gael Kakuta.

The Londoners were handed a two-year transfer ban by Fifa, which was lifted after the clubs reached an agreement.

Zoran Tosic leaves Manchester United for CSKA Moscow

Serbian international Zoran Tosic has left Manchester United for CSKA Moscow for an undisclosed fee.

The winger arrived at United for £7m from Partizan Belgrade in January 2009.

However, he made just five first-team appearances before being loaned to Bundesliga side FC Cologne for the second half of the 2009-10 season.

The German outfit said they could not afford to keep the 23-year-old, who was an unused substitute in Serbia's 1-0 World Cup defeat to Ghana on Sunday.

Despite never scoring for United, Tosic managed five goals for Cologne in their successful battle to avoid relegation.

Tosic's move to Old Trafford 18 months ago was initially intended to be part of a £16.5 double-swoop involving then-17-year-old Partizan midfielder Adem Ljajic.

United, though, eventually decided against signing Ljajic - now at Fiorentina - citing difficulties in acquiring a work permit for the youngster as the main reason for pulling the plug on the deal.
